On an ordinary Wednesday morning, West Central Women’s Centre staff unlocked our doors and found several inches of water throughout the building. A pipe had sprung a small leak the night before. Since then, we’re making do in a temporary home, but offering limited services. In January, we supported 630 women meet basic needs, heal, and shift from hopelessness to empowerment. In February, because of the flood, we saw only 77 women and have the heartbreaking task of turning away women in need.
We’re reaching out to our community for help to get us back on our feet again. Our insurance covers most costs, but not all. We’re looking at a minimum $10,000 bill to reopen our doors by the end of April - a large amount for us. The money raised will cover costs of meeting safety and health needs (especially in the childcare room), replacing furniture and fixtures, and creating a space where all women can feel welcome and valued again. Thank you for your generosity and support!
Oh and p.s.! Any amount you can give will get us so much closer to our grand reopening! We hope you’ll be able to join us there as we celebrate our incredible community of supporters.
